FLIGHT PLACE
The Arnsberg-Menden airfield (FAM) welcomes you.
The FAM is designated in the air traffic concept of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) as a priority airfield for individual business air traffic. There are currently around 12,000 movements per year.
More than 40 aircraft are currently housed in four closed hangars with a total area of around 4,400 square meters. There are also parking areas on the partially paved open space between the apron and the runway, where helicopters can also park.
From microlight aircraft to motor gliders and business jets
The spectrum of aircraft ranges from ultralight aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 472.5 kilograms to motor gliders, single-engine low- and high-wing aircraft, twin-engine aircraft and fast “turboprops”. twin-engine “business jets” with a maximum take-off weight of 5.7 tons.
As the commercial airport serves many commercial enterprises as a local airfield for fast return flights to customers and suppliers as well as company branches in Germany and abroad, the regional air traffic hub is also approved for federal police and customs border clearance, including for non-Schengen travel.
There are no scheduled or charter flights at the FAM.
Two air sports clubs are based at the Arnsberg-Menden airfield
In addition, the Luftsportclub (LSC) Arnsberg and the Luftsportgemeinschaft Westfalen (LSGW) are based at the FAM with several club-owned aircraft. The LSC also trains pilots at its flight school.
There is also an aviation technology company (LTB) on the FAM, which is responsible for the maintenance and repair of aircraft.
The energy for the rest of the flight is secured
The airfield’s wide range of fuel is available to police and rescue pilots as well as business travelers and other members of the general aviation community.
Linger, pamper and relax
Following extensive renovation in 2011/2012, the airfield building has a modern corrugated sheet metal façade based onthe similar design of the legendary JU 52 aircraft.
The conference hotel, restaurant and café “JU 52” is not only popular with pilots from the air, but is also used just as frequently by guests from the region, who use the square and its outdoor dining area, some of which have a large covered terrace, as a destination for family outings and walks as well as business meetings in good weather.
A children’s playground with a large climbing frame in the shape of an airplane and other play equipment has been popular with children for generations to play pilot and passenger.
Popular as an excursion destination and leisure domicile
If you just want to relax, you can find a cozy seat on the beautiful open-air terrace of the restaurant on warm days. Here, guests can enjoy coffee and cake, cool drinks and delicious food while watching the planes take off and land, or simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the Westerberg with its woods and meadows, while their children have fun in the playground within sight.
The bowling alley in the basement is a classic domicile for social and sporting activities on the idyllically situated airfield.
A hiking trail around the site also provides for natural recreation.
Fullmotion flight simulator for pilots and amateurs
A three-dimensional full-motion flight simulator of the “REDBIRD FMX” brand has been a fascinating leisure activity for young and adult flight and technology fans since 2012.
Due to its realistic representation of flight behavior, it also serves as a training ground for aspiring and trained pilots. The simulator, including expert guidance, can be booked by them as well as by non-professionals on an hourly basis. (Link to booking: simulator@flugplatz-arnsberg-menden.de)
Far more than two dozen jobs
In total, more than two dozen full-time and part-time employees work at the airfield. The spectrum ranges from management, flight attendants and groundskeepers to professional pilots, aircraft mechanics, cooks and service personnel.
In 2020 and 2021, the airport’s 50-year-old runway was also completely renovated and significantly expanded to offer pilots and passengers even greater safety.
